Helicopters

Selfridge has three helicopters in their collection. Now I like helicopters, even though they don't really fly. (They're just so ugly that the earth repels them.)

Anyone who was in the service from Vietnam to this day knows the distinctive "WOP! WOP! WOP!" of the UH-1H "Huey's" rotor blades. This aircraft's done it all: transport, medi-vac, cargo-hauling, air assault, command-and-control, search-and-rescue...you name it, a Huey's been used for it.

I always wanted to fly the AH-1 "Cobra" though. This little two-seater was the ultimate hunter-killer.
With a variety of rockets and guns, the Cobra could kill anything, as numerous Vietnamese, Iraqis and Taliban types could attest (if a Cobra hadn't killed them).
Just 36 inches wide, not counting weapons pylons.

Here's an HH-52A "Seaguard" that was once used by the Coast Guard for Great Lakes Search and Rescue operations.
A lot of boaters are alive today because this bird and others like it went out to find them no matter what the weather was like.
